After clearing the land, tilling, shoveling loads (LOADS) of compost, measuring, spending countless hours designing and planning, and fencing this small plot of forest, Blumenwald is now home to over 4,000 seeds. Varieties of Linaria, Black Eyed Susans, Calendula, Zinnias, Celosia, Bachelors Buttons, Strawflower, Cosmos, Amaranth, Pincushions, Cress, Phlox and more are being nurtured in the soil, and my hope is to share these beautiful flowers with you in the upcoming weeks.
That said, Blumenwald is not just about the flowers. The farm is the center of what I hope is an experience for you. Bring your children, meet new people and families – laugh, contemplate, read, explore. Bring a picnic lunch, have a cup of coffee or glass of wine, and enjoy the present time in community. As Robin Wall Kimmerer (Braiding Sweetgrass) describes the Original Instructions, “his role was not to control or change the world as a human, but to learn from the world how to be human.”
